A solid 5 wicket victory on Saturday saw the 1st XI return to winning ways.
Waugh and Rothon returned to their usual miserly selves and restricted the scoring well with Rothon picking up the first wicket of the day to take himself to 1000 wickets for the club- an outstanding achievement I think you'll all agree. Waugh picked up a second wicket before Rothon took the third. Craig Nurse playing his first game for Walsham this season started a little loose but largely his pace allowed the loose balls to go up punished. As he found his line and length he picked up a fourth wicket with a sharp caught and bowled. Ben George bowled another very tidy spell from the other end finishing with 12 overs, 2 for 25. Joe Bryant was not as tight during his 4 over spell but picked up a wicket as is normal for him. Waugh returned at the end to take another wicket and a Forbes run out meant that Mildenhall finished at 157-9.
Walshams reply began well with both Bryant (L) and Owston (18) both striking a couple of boundaries. After Owston fell having dragged a sweep onto his stumps Baker (28) and Bryant put together a 63 run partnership which the score to 93 before Bryant fell for 49. Ben George couldn't repeat the previous weeks batting display and fell first ball but this only brought Jackson to the crease. The game was very nearly finished with 1 run required when Jackson was out LBW for 42 with Ash Forbes hitting the winning runs to finish with a typically stylish 13 not out and Campbell a very careful 0 not out.
A pretty good win but still improvements to be made before the end of the season.
