A disappointing performance from the team meant that St Margret's, having been without a win previously this season gained 20 points and Walsham took home just 6.
Having been inserted on a very sticky looking pitch Walsham lost emergency opener Jackson in the second over for 0 and then Bryant a few overs later for 3. Baker and Lynn put together a decent partnership before Baker was bowled for 24. By this time normal opener Owston had arrived having been stuck in traffic and set about making the bowlers work very hard for his wicket. Barry Lynn who made a brilliant 70 odd the previous week rode his luck on the difficult surface to make 29, Owston was out with 5 overs remaining at the end of the innings for a very gritty 29 and James French on his first XI debut made a very handy 20 but no one else was able to hang around to add more than 3 runs to the score. Walsham finished on 132 which was thought to be around 30 runs short of a good score on the day but crucially St Margret's received the two overs unused by Walsham.
Waugh and Rothon bowled well but only managed the one breakthrough early on when French took a good catch behind the stumps off the bowling of Waugh. The introduction of Jackson's off spin proved to be the downfall of the two set batters who each fell stumped and then bowled for 52 and 37. After this panic seemed to grip the batsmen as a further 5 wickets fell before St Margret's crept over the line with a single from the last ball of the 46th over, 8 down.
Credit to those who did dig in and make the home bowlers work for their wicket despite great assistance and credit to the bowlers who generally made batting very hard work with both Waugh and Jackson finishing with 4 wickets each. Ali Waugh in particular bowled with pace and menace.
Once again though, not good enough men!
