Having finally won a toss, skipper Liam Bryant asked Abberton to bat first on what can be a difficult ground to defend with a good pitch and a quick outfield.
Davies was out LBW to George with the score at 20 and Trussler was fortunate that a taller fielder was not stationed at deep square leg when he flicked aerially and just cleared Taylor Rothon on the line. After making 150 last weekend Sullivan looked good for his 18 run until Ben George spun one back to trim the off- bail. Moxon then came to the crease and looked to play low risk shots and push the singles. Trussler was caught behind by French off the bowling of George for his third wicket. Johnson was bowled by Mark Rothon before House came out swinging to make 54 from 52 balls including 7 fours and 1 mighty six which broke a neighbours window! When he was out LBW to George Pettit came out to continue the big hitting, striking three sixes and 1 four making 29 not out from 12 balls faced. Moxon was out caught by Liam Bryant at long on for 57 and Abberton’s innings closed on 230-6, George taking 4-64 from his 15 over, Rothon 2-83 and Bryant 0-75.
Walsham were given a good start as Bryant and Owston put on 87 for the first wicket before Bryant was out for 37. Baker came in and played some nice shots to keep the score moving as Owston became more and more at home. When Baker was caught at deep cover for 18, George came in and continued the good work. He looked very good and timed the ball well making a run- a- ball 21 inlcuding two 6’s. The chase was completed with 7 balls remaining and with Owston 113 not out and Paul Newman 17 not out. Owston’s knock spanned 144 balls and included fifteen 4’s and two 6’s and was in the writers opinion, one of his best innings for Walsham.
