Walsham skipper Bryant decided to bat first on another good looking Summer Road pitch.
The innings began in a watchful manner as Scarce and Bryant mixed defence with the odd boundary. When the score stood at 27 Sykes swung back in to trap Scarce in front for 9 which contained two well struck boundaries. Jackson joined Bryant at the crease and the two continued steadily against some good bowling. The introduction of Whiley to the bowling attack allowed both batsmen to get the scoreboard moving. Bryant went to 50 with a single off Sykes but was out LBW again to Huffer’s first ball. Jackson continued to accumulate and tick over while Lynn struck a few boundaries before Webb was brought into the attack. Lynn (17) was out bowled and de Carvalho (2) was out caught at long off and Waugh was out stumped off the bowling of Huffer before George joined Jackson and the board began to move again. Jackson took a particular liking to Webb and struck several boundaries including three consecutive 6’s in one over. George (28*) rotated the strike well and when Jackson was out for 104 ensured that the total was more than competitive at 249-8.
The Brockley innings started with de Carvalho (7-3-10-2) taking a wicket in each of his first two overs and Forbes (8-1-33-2) removing Fisher for just 15. Webb managed to hand around and contributed 0 to a partnership of 20 before Forbes removed him with a cracking yorker. Both openers gernerating good pace and carry in their opening spells. At this point rain showers began to interrupt the game and around an hours play was lost to one heavy shower. After play resumed Hurst and Huffer batted well together and the visiting skipper past 50 before being caught by de Carvalho off the bowling of Rothon (8-1-28-2). George (8-0-29-1) removed Hurst and Rothon had Whiley caught by Bryant before another heavy shower stopped play again with the score 103-7.
This interruption proved to be the end of the game with the umpires deeming the outfield unplayable and the light rapidly fading at 8:15pm…
