Walsham win last over thriller

Elmstead II won the toss and chose to bat on what looked a good, if a little slow surface.
The Elmstead openers played nicely and put the bad balls away but were also helped by some uncharacteristicly poor fielding from what is usually a very good fielding side to add over 100 for the first wicket. Walsham only had the one very tough chance high and to the right of Lynn at first slip which went down.
After drinks George and Forbes bowled nicely to tighten things up for the vistors and wickets began to fall. After the two openers only skipper Sheeky was able to build any sort of innings as scoring became tough with the older ball. Regualr wickets towards the back end of the innings saw Elmstead finish on 217-8 after 45 overs wickets George taking 3 wickets, Rothon 2 and others chipping in.
The Walsham innings started slowly with openers Bryant and Owston trying to set the chase up. Owston looked in fine form and with scampered singles and a string of well timed boundaries from Owston the score began to tick along. Pushman and Webster bowling well at this stage for the hosts.
With the score at around 90 and 1 ball to go before drinks a Bryant drive was held high at mid off to give Elmstead their first success.
After some pleasant shots Forbes played around a straight one and was bowled bring George to the crease and he set about building a partnership with Owston who was now scoring nicely.
Having added around 50 together George attemped to clear mid on and was bowled by Kharia. After this another good partnership between Lynn and Owston was built around running hard between the wickets exploiting the in- out field and the odd boundary including a mighty hit from Lynn for the only 6 of the innings.
When Owston was caught in the in field shortly after bringing up his 100 Walsham still rquired around 25 to win and between Campbell, Waugh and Joe Bryant these were knocked off in the last over with a nicely placed 'guide'through the gully from Joe Bryant.
Stand out bowlers for Elmstaed, Pushman and Kharia with Webster also producing some very good deliveries during his long spell.
19 points represents a good start against a side who we expect to be in the top 4 or 5 again this season but there is still plenty to work on.
