Brockley- Away

Brockley’s captain Huffer won the toss and decided to bat first on a good, if a little on the low side, pitch. His openers, Fisher and the in form McCaffery settled in and had moved the score to 27 before French snapped up McCaffery behind the stumps off the bowling of Ali Waugh. Liam Bryant then removed both Jones and Fisher to leave Brockley reeling at 33-3. George and Rothon were introduced to the attack and continued to take regular wickets until a partnership of 31 between Whiley and Sykes took Brockley past 100. The last two wickets fell with the score at 107. Wickets were shared between Waugh (1), Bryant (2), Rothon (3) and George (4) in what was a good all round display in the field.

The reply got off to quick start with the promoted Lynn getting a few boundaries away and moving the score to around 40 before he was dismissed by Sykes for 18. Jackson also looked in fine touch before he was out LBW to Sykes for 4 ending his good run of scores so far this year. Ben George joined Bryant at the crease and when the team needed a partnership he battled against the evergreen Sykes and ran well before both he and Bryant were out with two runs required. Bryant for 59 and George for 5. It was left to Walsham’s own evergreen Neil Baker to hit the winning runs through cover with Ali Waugh 0 not out at the other end.

A 6 wicket win giving Walsham another 20 points. A solid performance which has left Walsham top of Division 3 after 5 games.
