A very important win for Walsham and just as important as the 20 points brought back to The Meadow is that Abberton only gained 3 points from the game. A highly impressive performance with the ball and in the field.

Having won another toss and invited the home side to bat first on what looked a good pitch, a quick outfield and a hot afternoon, Walsham were given an early breakthrough when deCarvalho had Davies caught at first slip by Jackson for just a single. Earley was the next man out for 17 when deCarvalho trimmed his bails and this brought together Moxon and Sullivan in a vital period for both sides. Moxon was not at his fluent best and offered a couple of half chances but still ticked over and was able to put away a handful of bad balls. Sullivan signalled his intent when he struck Waugh over mid- off for six before taking deCarvalho for three boundaries in the next over. Ali Waugh brought his short but sweet innings to an end in his next over as he had Sullivan caught behind by Joe Scarce for 25. Moxon continued to accumulate until a mix up with Trussler caused him to be run out by George/Waugh trying to regain his ground at the non- striker’s end. Trussler then nicked Waugh behind without further adding to the score before a partnership of 15 between Guy and Pettit took Abberton towards 100. George then had Pettit caught at mid off and House caught behind, Waugh Bowled Guy and George took the last two wickets to finish off the home innings for 120 in 38.2 overs.

Walsham’s reply got off to a good start with 40 added in the first 8 overs before Bryant was caught and bowled by Pettit for 22 and then two balls later Scarce was caught behind off the bowling of Terry. Lynn wasn’t able to really trouble the scorers before Campbell added 31 with Jackson. When Campbell departed for 6, Taylor Rothon batted just as the situation required and added 21 with Jackson before Jackson was caught trying to clear mid- off for a very stylish and fluent 33. This brought deCarvalho to the wicket and with 21 required for victory last weeks two heroes made light work, striking boundaries and getting the team over the line with 27 overs to spare.
