Another good effort and 18 points to take home in very tough conditions for cricket.

Upon winning the toss, Walsham invited Brockley to bat first on a blustery (tempestuous (look it up Barry) day).

The Brockley openers started steadily with Forbes (11-0-44-3) bowling with the wind and George (12-2-39-0) into it boundaries were hard to come by. Forbes bowled a good spell as he continues to impress. deCarvalho (9-0-28-2) replaced Forbes and quickly decided that cutters might be the way forward. He drew first blood for Walsham when he bowled Webb for 20 and then N. Boreham for 6. The introduction of Rothon (10-1-46-1) straight after drinks brought about a big wicket as Jeffery was well caught by deCarvalho at short fine leg for 53. Huffer made 32 before Jackson (3-0-14-1) deceived him in the flight and a routine catch was taken at short midwicket. McGann and Plaice tried to push things along towards the end of the Brockley innings until both were dismissed by Forbes as he returned to the attack. Brockley’s innings finished on 176-7.

The Walsham reply started steadily and both Bryant (19) and Scarce (18) were able to get away an early boundary each before the first of three rain interruptions took the players off for around 10 minutes. The openers survived another mini session and added a few more runs to the total before the next rain break. When played resumed Bryant was out caught at short cover as he pushed at one from English. Jackson joined Scarce and stroked his first ball through cover for 4 of the best before pushing on and taking the attack to the Brockley bowlers before rain stopped play again for about 15 minutes. When play resumed, Huffer was brought on and he had Jackson caught at deep midwicket for 27 which brought deCarvalho to the wicket. There then followed a period where Scarce accumulated and deCarvalho scored at far greater than a run every ball faced. Scarce was out LBW to Whiley which gave Barry Lynn the chance to try to match the Aussies’s hitting. deCarvalho passed 50 in what seemed like a heartbeat and Lynn was soon into his stride with some lovely strokes before he unleased 3 sixes including the one which took Walsham past the Brockley total. deCarvalho finishing unbeaten on 79 and Lynn on 23.
