A first defeat of the season for Walsham in a game which could have worked out differently had a few key moments turned out differently.

Copdock invited Walsham to bat on what looked to be a very good pitch.

Bryant and Scarce made a steady start as the new ball moved around but were still able to score at 4 an over until Scarce was out LBW to Thomas for 8. Jackson came to the wicket and started exactly as he had finished last Saturday by stroking the ball around before Jenkin overpitched and was dispatched over mid off for the games first 6. Unfortunately Jackson was not able to repeat his first two performances with the bat this season and was out bowled by Jenkin for 12 on the stroke of drinks. By this time Bryant had found a nice rhythm and had moved past 50. Bryant (60 from 72balls) and Campbell (0) fell in quick succession, the latter to the first spectacular one handed catch of the day. deCarvalho then joined Lynn and looked to put the bowlers on the back foot. He made a brutal 31 (from 22 balls) including 3 sixes and a four but was caught on the mid wicket boundary before he could really take the bowlers down. Lynn then looked to push on but was caught at long on the 23 from 65 balls and from there on no one was able to provide the innings with the shot in the arm it needed. The innings fizzled out and Walsham were only able to post 167.

Ash Forbes (11-0-40-1) and Ben deCarvalho (9-2-33-3) gave Walsham a very good start when they dismissed the top three Copdock batters in their opening spells without leaking too many runs. George (10-1-32-2) and Rothon (15-0-47-2) looked to put a squeeze on the batters and were able to keep the flow of runs down as Jenkin looked to take the chase deep. Jenkin keep the score ticking over and when Bhatt came in he looked to try to hit boundaries as he made 20 from 32 before deCarvalho came back to clean him up. In the end Jenkin (49*) and Taylor saw Copdock home with 6 balls remaining and two wickets in hand.

A first defeat of the season for Walsham in a game which could have worked out differently had a few key moments turned out differently. Things fizzled out with the bat and fielding was not up to the usual standard. Hopefully some lessons learnt and we go again next week at home to Bury II.
