An important win and 19 points to add to the tally. A pleasing effort with the bat to ensure we got to a score and then with the ball and in the field.

After this disappointing abandonment against Long Melford, Walsham were again at home. Haverhill decided to bowl first on winning the toss having agreed to reduce the match to 80 overs.

Walsham’s innings began steadily until the 9th over when Scarce was out caught and bowled by North for 11 and with the score on 28. Liam Bryant and Oli Jackson added 39 before a mix up ended up with Jackson being run out from deep square leg having made 20. Lynn struck a couple of boundaries before he was out bowled by North for 11. Ben de Carvalho lasted only one ball, LBW to North and Taylor Rothon was bowled by Brailey for 0. At this stage (22 overs), the score was at 99-5. Bryant and George looked to rebuild by rotating the strike and added 30 in 10 overs before Bryant was out caught on the deep square leg boundary for 62 (the author has neglected to mention the fact that Bryant offered 4 chances in a particularly ugly knock before was out). This brought Forbes (24*) to the wicket and he along with George (20) and Waugh (12) ensured that Walsham made a competitive score of 182-8 from 40. North the star with the ball for Haverhill with 13-1-41-4.

Hartshorn was the mainstay of the Haverhill reply in making 52 before he was the 5th man out with the score on 82. Earlier, de Carvalho (11-3-22-2) had removed Williams LBW for 9 and the very next ball Street was bowled. The big Aussie bowling the quickest and most impressive spell of his stay so far. Rothon (12-1-49-3) took over and got North (LBW) and Egan caught by Lynn at mid- wicket before George (7-1-38-2) chipped in with the wicket of Hartshorn and then Brailey (c&b). A partnership of 61 between Sharpe and Ewens which included some lusty hitting threatened to take the game away from Walsham before a change of pace from Rothon induced Ewens to mistime and be caught in the outfield by Bryant for 29. Sharpe continued on his way until he was run out by Bryant for 38 attempting a second. The last pair added 7 runs in the closing overs but ultimately Haverhill fell short by 13 runs as Forbes (10-0-52-0) closed out the innings well.
